samad.

“What is all of this?” Nilou asked from the entrance of my kitchen. She had been locked inside of my bedroom all evening working. I wanted to bully her for her time, but I didn’t want to chance her actually keeping her word and leaving if I bothered her.

“Dinner, come here,” I was leaning into the counter and extended a hand to her which she accepted. “You look tired.” I let her know when she was settled into my embrace.

“That’s because I am.” She sighed. “It’s been hell playing catch up.”

My eyes roamed her beautiful face before latching onto hers.

“Are you sure that’s all it is?”

Her pretty face frowned up. “What is that supposed to mean?”

“Just a question, love. I don’t want you to be worrying about shit for real, but I know in your profession it’s damn near impossible.”

“Yeah, well, I feel like you were implying otherwise.”

She pushed out of my arms and headed toward the table where our food was set up. I was in the mood for steak, so I hit Teyon up and asked her to hook a nigga up right quick. She made sure to charge for the impromptu request too.

Frowning, I quickly followed her and caught her before she was able to have a seat.

“Ay, you good?”

“Yes, I’m fine.” she lied and sighed. It was written all over her face. “I’m sorry, I’m just a little frustrated. Work is kicking my ass and Landon is blowing me up.”

I frowned. “Blowing you up for what?”

“I don’t know; about us. It’s irritating me and I’m barely able to get any of my work done without putting my phone on do not disturb. I can’t afford to do that in case my mother who is sickly calls.” She released a deep sigh. “I’m sorry, I’m ranting.”

Pulling the chair that was closest to us out, I took a seat, bringing her down with me into my lap.

“You’re not ranting, you’re venting and that’s cool. Let’s address this bitch ass nigga first, blowing you up about ‘us’? There is no ‘us’ where the two of you are involved anymore.”

“You know what I mean, Samad.”

“I really don’t.” I shrugged. “I made myself very transparent when we stepped off that jet a few weeks ago, and in your office earlier. I don’t play games and I don’t repeat shit, Lou, baby. It’s all action from now on.”

“Samad…”

“Warn that nigga.” I cut her off. “Now, tell me about your mother; she’s sick?”

It took her a moment, but she reluctantly let it go and nodded. “Yes, well, she was, not anymore. She had a bad stroke that left one side of her body immobile, she’s a lot better now but I still worry, you know?”

I nodded. “As you should, but Dukes is cool, we gone make sure of that and you don’t have to worry about putting your phone do not disturb either. Bruh won’t hit your line about shit after business hours or that isn’t business related anymore, I promise you that.”

Her eyes danced around mine before she finally broke contact and looked to the table.
